This is a Decatur residence with a shady backyard that slopes down to a small water retention culvert. This homeowner grew up in this house and inherited it from her parents. She wanted to update the backyard with native plants, while keeping many of the traditional southern plants that her parents had planted when building the house. A path was put into the backyard and shade loving wildflowers, shrubs and ferns were added to provide year-round interest and habitat for birds and pollinators. This is a Decatur residence with an open sunny backyard. This family has small children and wants to create some designated spaces in the backyard for adult gatherings, a children’s playground, and raised vegetable beds. They also wanted to add in native shrubs, trees, and perennials to provide habitat for wildlife and pollinators. The backyard has a gentle slope down to a DeKalb County creek that has been covered with Kudzu. We put together a plan to remove the invasives, and native plants to help establish the creek line.
